A leader in renewable energy production
Germany's "True North" continues to lead the charge in renewable energy generation. In 2022, Schleswig-Holstein produced an impressive 26.0 million MWh from renewable sources. According to the Nord Statistics Office, this exceeded the state's own electricity consumption by an astounding 187%. Building on this success, Schleswig-Holstein Netz (SH Netz) reported that more than 11.37 million MWh were exported beyond our state's borders, two million MWh more than previous year. This further underscores Schleswig-Holstein’s role as a powerhouse in green energy production. Wind energy remains the foundation of Schleswig-Holstein’s renewables' strategy. Onshore wind generation rose by 12.8% to around 14.2 million MWh, while offshore wind generation grew by 15.3% to contribute around 7.0 million...

Schleswig-Holstein is on track to become a European leader in the production, distribution and utilisation of green hydrogen. Strong collaboration between government and industry is essential to fully harness this potential and accelerate the transition to economically viable applications. To support this vision, Schleswig-Holstein's State Coordination Office for the Hydrogen Economy has been established at WTSH under the direction of our Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment, and Nature (MEKUN). This office will assist stakeholders in Schleswig-Holstein by connecting them to relevant funding opportunities, fostering knowledge transfer and networking, and making the region’s hydrogen market developments visible on the global stage. ...
