Schleswig-Holstein offers a wide range of academic and vocational training opportunities. With nine state and three private universities as well as a university of applied sciences for public administration, prospective students have a wide choice of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes with international recognition.
In Schleswig-Holstein, there are many different training opportunities in various fields such as healthcare, medical technology, communications technology and renewable energies. The focus here is not only on academic programmes, but also on practice-oriented vocational training.

Dual education
Dual training takes place in a company and does not legally require a specific school-leaving qualification to start. The selection of the required school-leaving qualification is the responsibility of the training companies, although as a rule at least a Hauptschule qualification is expected. During their training, trainees receive a payment, contractually defined as a "training allowance". The amount of this payment varies depending on the training occupation and is usually determined by a collective agreement.
Access without a school-leaving certificate is not easy, but it is possible. The duration of training is between 2 and 3.5 years. Depending on the school-leaving qualification, the duration may also be shortened.
The dual training programme consists of a lot of practical work. It usually lasts between 2 and 3.5 years and has two phases: Each week you spend one or two days at a vocational school or in longer, continuous blocks.
There are around 325 recognised training courses in Germany.
A dual training programme prepares you optimally for your professional future. Committed, professionally qualified specialists are in demand in the labour market.
