Exciting insights into a successfully completed innovation project

‘Customer satisfaction 4.0 through conversion to a networked value-added chain’ – this is the name of the innovation project that was completed at WISKA Hoppmann GmbH. WISKA is an internationally active company with customers in shipbuilding, industry and trade. The aim of the project was to create an optimal information and material flow process based on automated warehousing technology and the innovative organisation of logistics, thus ensuring fast and error-free deliveries to customers. WTSH innovation consultants Peer Biskup and Dr Matthias Böttcher accompanied the project. The project was finalised with a meeting at the company and the successful completion was reported as follows:

WTSH-Online editorial team: What was the initial situation before the project?

WISKA Hoppmann GmbH: Our initial situation was that, due to growth, we had reached our limits. The processes that originally worked well were no longer efficient enough. We had difficulties with our delivery reliability and found it hard to cope with customers ordering small batches at short notice, especially as our product range is very large with many individual parts. It was clear that we had to act in order to remain competitive in the long term.

WTSH-Online editorial team: What were you able to achieve through this project and what were the challenges?

WISKA Hoppmann GmbH: As a result of the project, the reaction and turnaround times have been significantly reduced. In particular, we have been able to greatly improve the communication processes within the company, and the time it takes to find parts in the warehouse has also been greatly reduced. Delivery reliability has also been considerably improved. We learned a lot during the project and built up considerable expertise within the company. However, it was a very challenging project, as we introduced a new software module and moved to our new production site at the same time.

WTSH-Online editorial team: How did WTSH support you?

WISKA Hoppmann GmbH: Prior to application for the project, we already had contact with WTSH’s innovation consultancy and defined the project. The project funding played a decisive role in the realisation of our innovation project. Our new ideas are also getting a lot of support from WTSH’s innovation consultancy, which is providing us with numerous contacts and offers. For example, we want to promote the use of artificial intelligence and become even more involved in the area of sustainability, for example in the development of new packaging materials, in order to further expand our contribution to a climate-neutral economy.
