Into the future for, and with, regenerative energy
UniverCell produces innovative energy storage systems in Schleswig-Holstein
Schleswig-Holstein is a pioneer in the field of renewable energies. To be able to use energy sustainably, efficient energy storage systems are necessary. The company UniverCell produces electrodes, cells, modules and batteries based on lithium-ion technology. It seems more than fitting for the company to be located in the true north.
In Flintbek, in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district, UniverCell is Europe's largest electrode and cell production facility for all "non-automotive" markets. While many competitors concentrate on the automotive industry, UniverCell focuses on all other markets, including renewable energies, construction equipment, medical applications, maritime applications, robotics and electric flying.
Electrodes and cells manufactured by UniverCell enable longer service life, extended temperature ranges and higher performance data compared to standard lithium-ion batteries. Through the use of renewable energies, the production aims to be completely carbon-neutral by 2022. In addition, all input materials are sourced locally from Europe, which also reduces the products' carbon footprint.
The two company founders Dr Stefan Permien and Marius Strack contribute more than ten years of experience in the field of battery design, electrode coating and cell production as well as battery development. It was easy for the founders to decide on the Flintbek location: On top of being close to the state capital Kiel, proximity to the sea gives them direct access to renewable energies. The regional proximity to good universities and technical colleges is another benefit.
“It also had to do with space availability actually. We need large production areas. We currently occupy around 3,300 m². Here in Flintbek, we have the space to implement growth plans in the areas of production, research and development, and personnel." Dr Stefan Permien, CEO UniverCell
UniverCell plans to employ 70 people by the end of the year.
